VELMA E. FEW Velma Ernestine Edwards Few, 80, of 38 Mountainbrook Road, Asheville, died Monday, September 8, 2003, at the Laurels of Summit Ridge. Mrs. Few was born in Spartanburg, SC and was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Benson Few, her parents James B. and Cora Stone Edwards, by a brother Ruben Olander Edwards and a sister Annie Cleora Demeo. She was a 1944 graduate of Berea College and taught in the Asheville City School System before retiring in 1984. She was a member of Tunnel Road Presbyterian Church, ARP. Surviving are two daughters, Angela F. Stephenson and her husband Edward of Kodak, TN and Dr. Donna Shannon of Clearwater, FL; two sons, Ernest Few, Jr. of the home and Robert Eugene Few and his wife Susan of Fayetteville; a sister, Cornelia Anderson of Montgomery, AL; two brothers, James L. Edwards and Dr. W. Everett Edwards of Spartanburg; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Friday in the chapel of the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Olson officiating. Burial will follow in the Veterans Cemetery. Her family will greet friends at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday and 30 minutes prior to the service at the Veterans Chapel. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

    My sincerest condolences in the passing of your mother. I had the priviledge of having Mrs Few teach me in school. Looking back over the years I learned quite a lot from her. She was a very honorable lady.I am sure she touched the lives of many people just as she did mine.It was an honor knowing her.
