Vergie Revis, 81, of Leicester, daughter of Clarence and Bertha Smith, took the hand of her shepherd Jesus Christ and walked beyond the sunset on Thursday, November 14, 2013. Mrs. Revis was preceded in death by her parents and sister Louise Smith. She is survived by brothers Ray Smith and wife Linda, and Allen Smith and wife Jennifer, all of Leicester; sisters Evelyn Calhoun and husband James, and Irma Jean Calhoun and husband Keith, all of Bryson City; nieces Linda Redmon, Lynn Shook, Angela Cabe, Kim Smith, Amanda Turbyfill, and Donna Wyatt; nephews Jimmy Calhoun, Doug Smith, David Smith, Keith Smith, and Jason Smith; 9 great-nieces; 8 great-nephews; 6 great-great nieces; 9 great-great nephews; and a large extended family. Mrs. Revis is a native of Buncombe Co. She was a former employee of Sky City, a member of Corinth Baptist Church, and a caregiver to many. She was known as Aunt Vergie to all children. She was known for her love and hospitality to everyone, and her biscuits and gravy on Saturday mornings, strawberry punch Bowl cakes and coconut cakes were known by neighbors and at church gatherings. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Dr. Bill Day, Rev. Thomas Freeman, and Rev. Charles Surrett officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home. The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Messino, Hospice Care, Dr. Seigert, and to the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John F. Keever Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, and/or to Corinth Baptist Church, 195 Dix Creek Rd. #2, Leicester, NC 28748.

  2. Such a sweet woman. I remember praying with her during bible school. I will miss her, but I know she is happier there than here.

    To the family rejoice in her homegoing . Weep not for her for she has her reward that she has worked for all her life. Randy remembers working with her in 1976 at Sky CIty. Prayers for peace.

  4. She was always nice to me. She came one day to help my grandmother after she fell, and I was always be grateful for what she did for my grandmother. Her faith has inspired me. I will miss her but I know she is in a better place. my prayers are with the family.

  5. Vergie was loved by everyone that knew her. Always so kind and loving. She will be badly missed by the Revis family for all love she gave. She was a true warrior for the Lord and a wonderful family member. Greatest example of Christian.
