Verna Lillie Hawkins Lockwood, 83, of the Cloisters, Asheville, died Thursday, December 20, 2012.
Mrs. Lockwood was born in Leicester and was a daughter of the late David Napolean and Zora Belle Olis Hawkins. She was married to the late Walter Edward Lockwood.
Mrs. Lockwood was retired from Sunland Hospital in Miami, FL, where she lived for 30 years. In Asheville she was a member of West Asheville Presbyterian Church and volunteered at Asheville Community Theatre, ABCCM, and Mission Hospital Gift Shop.
She is survived by three sisters, Wylma Parris (Harold) of Asheville, Faire Blakely of Asheville, and Eula Rodriquez (Jose) of Orange Park, FL; brothers, Billy C. Hawkins (Dell) and David O. Hawkins (Lisa), all of Leicester; and a number of nieces and nephews, including Daryl Hawkins (Diane) and Loretta Bemis; and a sister-in-law, Doris Hawkins.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Ray Earl Hawkins and Curtis Troy Hawkins.
A gathering of her family and friends will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, at her residence.
Memorials may be made to the Ladies' Circle of West Asheville Presbyterian Church.
