Vibeke Elisabeth Bettmann, 79, lived a vibrant and happy life. She died suddenly on Thursday, September 8, 2011, and will be dearly missed by many who loved her. Mrs. Bettmann was born in Lyngby, Denmark, to the late Christian and Helga Christensen Bentzen. She was a former resident of Carlinville, IL, where she retired as a speech and language therapist for the St. Louis Public School System. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. John Bettman; four daughters, Stella Elizabeth Bergan, Nina Bergan French, Britta Bergan Scandale, and Tanya Bergan Stedman; three grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Elisabeth Bentzen, and a brother Hans Henryk Bentzen. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Brent Norris, Rector, officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 337 Charlotte Street, Asheville, NC 28801. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting with the arrangements.

  4. During the short time we knew Elisabeth she was a very loving person and we will certainly miss her. Sorry we cannot attend the memorial service tomorrow as we will be out of town. You will be in our prayers and thoughts.

  5. Elisabeth is a Strong Spirit who has graduated to her new Life in Christ. She was an inspiration to her fellow Cursillista’s in Adam & Eve #29 just recently. Bon Voyage Elisabeth! Till our next post together Dear! Our Best Wishes and Prayers to Her Family!

  6. Angels come in many forms. If you have ever been a stranger or a newcomer, then you know how wonderful it feels to encounter any show of hospitality. Elizabeth will always be one of my angels.

  7. We begin each RICM weekend with a team Eucharist at which we remember all of the saints from our ministry family who have graduated from the Church Militant to the Church Triumphant. This past Friday in Georgia was the first such celebration after Elisabeth’s graduation and we dedicated the Mass to her. May she and all of the departed in Christ Jesus rest in peace and rise to reign in Glory with Him!

  8. I remember Elisabeth with such fondness. I worked with her for many years as we worked to assist intl. students at SIUE here in Edwardsville. She was a gracious and kind person and I’ll miss her friendship. Sending my prayers and love to John and her daughters
