Born in: Buncombe Co., NC
Resided in: Leicester, NC

Viola King Tweed, 91, of Leicester, North Carolina passed away peacefully at the Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends whom she had touched in some loving way throughout her beautiful life.

Viola was one of ten children born to the late Coy and Netter (Ledbetter) King, and was the beloved wife of the late Bruce Tweed for over 57 years.

Ms. Tweed loved the Lord with all her heart and wasn’t ashamed to share Jesus with anyone she met. She was a proud and founding member of Community Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully attended. As a farmer’s wife, she learned to make a little go a long way, often feeding hungry harvest crews from the fields as family and friends combined their efforts to put up hay and tobacco. On the farm, Viola perfected her skills of baking biscuits and cornbread, making jams, pickles, jellies, canning, sewing, quilting, and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.

A wonderful and loving wife, mother, sister, and Mamaw, she is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Bruce Tweed, son Ellery Bruce Tweed, an infant daughter, and siblings, Lewis, Millard, Curtis, Bill, and Gordon King, and Gladys Nash, Vernie Owens, Vever Gregg, and Venie Brown.

She is survived by her daughter, Earlene Ball and husband Michael of Leicester; grandchildren, Tina Blanchette and husband Steve, Daniel Tweed and wife Melissa, Dana Roberts and husband Chad, and Jennifer Rice and husband Kevin; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Gracie, Jay, D.J., Audrey, Lilah, and Jaxon; step-grandchildren, Chase, Andrew, Hannah, Caleb, Tessa, Kerrigan, Brittany and Austin; and several great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at Community Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dean Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

While flowers are accepted and appreciated, the family requests that donations be made to the Community Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Building.

Arrangements are by Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
