Virgil Keith Crowder, 75, of 776 Upper Glady Fork Road, Candler, died Saturday, September 26, 2009.
Mr. Crowder was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late Clarence Aaron and Ethel Morgan Crowder. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Crowder, sisters, Dorothy Crowder and Joretta Guy, and brothers, Milton and Thomas Crowder.
He was retired after 35 years with American Enka/BASF and was active with Upper Hominy Fire Dept. for 25 years. He was an active member of White Rock Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday school, and worked with the youth.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Warren Crowder; daughter, Brenda Young and her husband, Roy J. Young; son, Ronnie Crowder; grandchildren, Ronnie Crowder, Jr., Keith Crowder, Felicia Bartee, Amanda Young and Megan Young; six great-grandchildren; sister, Minnie Morgan, and brothers, Ted, Kay and Dale Crowder.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at White Rock Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Crowder, Jr., Keith Crowder, Doug Crowder, Charles Austin, Brad Keever, and Ricky O’Kelley.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

We have our 55th year Class Reunion scheduled for the graduates of Candler High School, Class of 1954, on October 10. We know that Virgil will only be with us in Spirit and will be recognized during our Memorial Service for our Classmates who have gone to be with our Lord and Saviour. One day we will all have a great reunion in Heaven.
