Virginia Lee Ledford Trexler

Resided in:
Candler, NC
Virginia Lee Ledford Trexler, 99, of Candler, spread her new wings and flew into her forever pain-free home on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born November 15, 1918, in St. Louis, MO, to Carlee Smith Ledford and Will Ledford (from Madison Co., NC). At her age of four months, the family moved to the mountains in Candler. Virginia finished Candler High School and entered and completed her education at The Asheville Normal.
In 1941 she met and soon married the love of her life, A.K. "Ted" Trexler of Asheville who was called into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942. After raising her three children, she went back to work and retired as the baker for Asheville School for Boys.
She was always the "hub" of the family home, which was always open to have visits from a prince, a president, or a pauper. She was active at Hominy Baptist Church in Candler for many years and was an avid gardener. She was known to her many nieces and nephews as "Aunt G". Each year she anticipated the arrival of spring when she started her gardens of vegetables and flowers. Her bounty was shared with family and friends. Although she did not speak constantly about her faith in the Lord Jesus, her actions spoke that faith in volumes.
Virginia is preceded in death by her father, her mother, and her four sisters: Alma, Mary, Alice, and Gertrude. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Arthur Kenneth "Ted" Trexler, who died in 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Orr (Tommy), son William (Gloria), son Rob (Libby), eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebrating the wonderful life of Virginia Trexler will be announced at a later date (when the weather warms up a little per her instructions).
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Pisgah Manor, and later to Hospice, for their wonderful care during her stay.
In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that donations be made to DayStay Adult Services at Hominy Baptist Church, 135 Candler School Rd., Candler, NC 28715.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

Such a great lady. My Mom thought so much of her. Enjoyed spending the nights at the Trexler house and eating meals there, whether it be supper or breakfast. She always made me feel like one of the family. It was a pleasure to have known her. Be thankful she was with you for so long. Paula and I send condolences.
