Asheville, NC – Virginia Mary Jennings, 85, died Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Mission Hospital. Mrs. Jennings was a daughter of the late Edward and Sarah Dugan Schwartz. She was a native of Peekskill, New York and a longtime resident of Jefferson Village. Mrs. Jennings was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar V. Jennings who passed away in 1975 and her great grandson, Joshua Jennings Crawford who passed away in 2007. She graduated from Peekskill High School and worked in the library at Lincoln Titus Elementary School in the Town of Cortland, New York. Mrs. Jennings enjoyed music and was a member of the church choir at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Shrub Oak, New York and was a member of the singing group Sweet Adeline's. She also volunteered her time at Westchester Community Hospital and Jefferson Village. Mrs. Jennings is survived by three children; Ted Jennings and his wife, Paulette of Loudon, TN, Kathy Affeldt and her husband, Jack, of Arden, NC, and Laura Murphy and her husband, Bryan, of Loveland, Ohio; a brother, Philip J. Schwartz and his wife, Constance, of Glens Falls, New York; six grandchildren, Pamela Crawford and her husband Brent, Ted Jr. Jennings, Nicholas Jennings, Heather Coddington and her husband Benjamin, Caitlin Murphy and Kevin Murphy; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Shrub Oak, New York at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 with Monsignor Sandi officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Peekskill. A wake will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Cargain Funeral Home in Mohopac, NY from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and then from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
