Virginia Pauline Lyda Clemmons, 67, of 194 Sardis Rd., Asheville, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000 in a local hospital after a long illness. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Lee and Edith Allen Lyda. Mrs. Clemmons was a member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Charles W. Clemmons; three daughters, Martha O’Kelley of Asheville, Robin Russell of Swannanoa, Luwana Hensley of Enka; a son, Sammy Clemmons of Candler; three sisters, Grace Howington and Nancy Clemmons both of Asheville, Joyce Bishop of Lexington, NC; three brothers, Bill Lyda of Weaverville, Fred Lyda of Burnsville, Tom Lyda of Asheville; twelve grandchildren, one step-grandchild and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Revs. Jerry Young, Jim Whitted and Larry Marshall will officiating. Burial will follow in Skyview Memorial Park with pallbearers being Adam Clemmons, Stephen O’Kelley, Calvin Hensley, Donald O’Kelley, Fred Lyda, Matthew Covan, Jonathan Staigo and Jack Clemmons. Her family will receive friends 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of a granddaughter, Rachel Penland, 14 Sams Branch Rd., Candler.
