Von Junior Black, 77, of Asheville, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018. A native of Buncombe Co., Von was a son of the late Herman and Dora Sams Black. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy, Margie and Jessie; and brother Johnny. Mr. Black was a tobacco, cattle and hay farmer. He worked as a truck driver for Ingles for 27 years, and previously for the Smile Oil Company and APC. At home, he loved spending time in his garden. Surviving are his wife, Jo Ann Gaddy Black; daughters, Linda Black and Sandy Baxter (Rob); son, Gene Black (Tanya); grandchildren, Hunter, Brandon, Cody, Cagni and Devon; siblings, Bob Zentz and Ruth Brezina; special family members, Tim Gaddy, Jess Ramsey and Dianne; special friends, Tommy Dale Teague, Frank Cook, and Coy and Judy Cagle; and many other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin Teague will officiate. Interment will follow at the New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

    I am so sorry that I didn’t know about this sooner or I certainly would have been present to relay my condolences. Von was such a special friend to our family and was always held in high esteem in our community. I pray that your memories will be sweet and God will hold you close in the coming days as you adjust to his home going. Another deposit in heaven, another reason to look forward to the day we will all be together again! I just bet he and my Dad, Weaver, are up there walking the fields of heaven!
