W. Durward Johnson
November 8, 1921 ~ April 17, 2002

A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Laura Edna Barger Johnson Ouderkirk and Hollis Patton Johnson. He was a graduate of Christ School and a W.W. II US Navy veteran. He was a member of the International Lions Club, Rotary, Elks and Toastmasters International. He also was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
Durward is survived by his wife, Dabney McCullough Johnson; daughter, Donna K. Johnston of West Covina, Calif.; step-daughter, Sheila Baldridge of Lordsburg, New Mexico; two aunts, June B. Groce of Asheville, Hidi Helwig of California; an uncle, Roger Barger of Asheville and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday at the Church of the Redeemer officiated by the Rev. Alex Hanks. Private interment will be in South Carolina.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times will be at the home, 22 Pinner Ranch Drive, Arden.

Dabney, I’m so sorry for your loss. Durward was a good man who I enjoyed working for and with and considered a good friend. We’ll all miss him until we too depart this life. God bless.
