Wilford Lytle Hicks, Sr., 83, of 211 Brickyard Road, Asheville, died Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at the VA Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Mills and Carrie Wilson Hicks. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nora Dew. He was a graduate of Brevard College and the owner/operator of W.L. Hicks, Inc. He was retired from the US Marines with over 20 years of service including World War II and Korea. Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Pauline Ledford Hicks; a son, Wilford Lytle Hicks, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Hendersonville; a brother, Mills Hicks of Canton; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery in Haywood County. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of arrangements.

  1. I was very saddened to hear that Wilford had passed away. I have worked with Wilford for the past few months at Aston Park Health Care Center as Activity Assistant on the Alzheimer’s Unit and grew very fond of Wilford. He will be greatly missed.

    Frances Smith Earwood, mother of Eugene C Smith/Gene died September 22, 2001. Mr. Hicks & Gene were in business together in early 1980’s. Gene thought the world of Mr. Hicks.
