Asheville – Wallace Brookshire, 84, of Asheville, died Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Givens Health Center.
A native of Caldwell County, he was a son of the late John L. and Vee White Brookshire.
Wallace was a retired purchasing agent, CPM, with Champion International Paper and a member of the National Purchasing Managers Association. He volunteered with the U.S. Forest Service helping keeping clear the trails for hikers and park visitors and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Thomas Brookshire; a son, Richard Gwyn Brookshire and his wife, Ann, of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Hazel Davis of Lenoir and Eloise Jarvis Austin of Statesville; a brother, Odell Brookshire of Lenoir; a grandson, Richard A Brookshire of New York, NY. and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2008 at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir with the Reverend Marietta Smith officiating. The family will visit with friends at the cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that memorial donations be made to Central United Methodist Church, 27 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

Sorry for your loss. Uncle Wallace was a very unique person. He always had a smile on his face and was always cheerful. I know he loved his family and he will surely be missed.
