Walter R. "Bud" Stowe, 83, of Old Leicester Highway, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the VA Medical Center. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late W.W. and Bertha Montgomery Stowe. He graduated from Leicester High School, attended Blanton's Business College and was a US Army veteran of WW II. Mr. Stowe worked in sales at J.M. Westall Lumber Company but was also known as a saw sharpener and operated Bud's Sharpening Service. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Edna Banks Stowe; a daughter, Joan Taylor and husband Scott of Efland; a son, Walter Bruce Stowe and wife Irene of Pisgah Forest; a sister, Hope Phillippe and husband Keith of Pikeville; a brother, Bill Stowe of Leicester; grandchildren, Christopher and Stacey Stowe, Bethany and Bobby Martin, Bryan Stowe and fiancée Sissy Jones and Shelby Taylor. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Monday at Victory Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark Chase, James Lamb and Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will follow at New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by Erwin High School Army JROTC. His family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm at the church prior to the service.

  7. I never had the pleasure of meeting Bud. I work with his daughter, and if the acorn doesn’t fall from the tree, he must have been a very special man who will be missed but never forgotten. I’m sorry for the family’s loss.
