Arden ~ Walter Eugene Lance , 94, of Arden, died Monday, March 5, 2007, at Beystone Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was a son of the late Mayo M. and Hattie Carland Lance. Walter was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marion E. Hawes Lance, and a daughter, Brenda J. Nelson, who both died in 1999. Walter was a lifelong resident of Henderson and Buncombe Counties and enjoyed farming and logging. He was also a member of Long Shoals Baptist Church. He is survived by six sons; William E. Lance and his wife, Polly, of Ft. Walton Beach, FL.; George A. Lance and his wife, Norma, of Arden; Don E. Lance and his wife, Norma, of Arden; James E. Lance and his wife, Melva, of Fletcher; Luther G. Lance and his wife, Deana, of Arden; and H. Daniel Lance of AL.; a daughter, Gwendolyn M. Franks of Dallas, GA.; 27 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Mt Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Roger Rearden and Reverend Robert Jarvis officiating.
