Walter Heilman Guthrie

Walter Heilman Guthrie Fletcher – Walter Heilman Guthrie, 85, of Fletcher, died Friday, March 05, 2010 at Universal Healthcare Center. A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late Robert Wesley and Rachel Clark Guthrie. He was the owner and operator of Guthrie's Used Cars in Asheville for over 50 years and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Guthrie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louise Wooten Guthrie; two daughters, Jean Graham of Arden and Ann Taylor, and her husband Arnold, of Simpsonville, SC; one sister, Helen Strayhorne of Asheboro, NC; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 7, 2010 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor Delton Hand officiating. Interment will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
