Walter McKinley Owenby

Walter McKinley Owenby, 67, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Mr. Owenby was born in Buncombe County to the late Francis McKinley Owenby and Beulah Holtzclaw Owenby. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Danielle Owenby; a brother, Ernie Owenby and a sister, Rosa Gillis. Walter loved the Lord. He attended Trinity of Fairview Baptist Church and had a wonderful Sunday School Class. He will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Florenda Owenby; a son, Jeremy McKinley Owenby; a daughter, Amy Owenby and a son, Brandon Owenby; two brothers, Francis "Bud" Owenby, Jr. and his wife, Jean and Chester Owenby and his wife, Clara; three sisters, Joyce Dotson and her husband, Donnie, Lucy Ratliff and Sara Whitaker; He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Gashes Creek Cemetery in Fairview with Reverend Chester Ray Owenby officiating. The family will receive friends prior to graveside service at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.
