Wanda Mathes Powell, 48, of Fletcher, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Mission Hospital.
A native of Buncombe Co., Wanda was a daughter of the late Charles and Shirley Webb Mathes.
Surviving are her daughter, Felicia Pegg (Jason); son, James Powell, Jr. (Kayla); sister, Tracy Parris (Dan); brother, Charles Mathes; grandchildren, Garrett and Macie Pegg and Mekenzee Powell; best friend, James Powell, Sr.; nieces, Dana and Amy Parris; and great niece and nephew, JaydaLynn Flores and Carson Young.
A memorial service for Mrs. Powell will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20, in the Patton Ave. Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.

Sorry for the families loss it’s still not clicking in my head that this is reality and this really happened and I cried and am still crying I’m sorry that you went down this path you surly will be missed I remember all the good times we had when everything was unraveling but I missed you and been trying to look you up on Facebook but haven’t been able to OK find you u but I wish b the family healing and peace of mind I’m sorry for yalls loss she surely will be missed it’s been so long sense I last seen Wanda and I hear about this happening and I broke down crying right before I went into work and still was crying wish we had more times we could have spent together
Wanda it’s been many years since I’ve seen you and it hurts my heart you went this way and that I won’t see you till we all get there. I pray there’s Justice served. I will always remember your pretty smile and cherish our times we had as kids. My heart hurts for everyone but we know where you are…with your mom, dad, mamaw, papaw & Aunt Bernice. Love you cuz, wish I had got to tell you that! ~
