  18. If I had a dollar for every time someone said ‘you look just like your daddy’ I’d be rich! I never really ‘got it’ until Ruby was born and I laid eyes on her for the first time- because my first thought was that she looked just like you. And now all I hear is that she looks just like me. The similarites that we had- like being left-handed, the squinty smile and dimpled chin gave me a sense of closeness to you and that helped sometimes deal with the circumstances of our relationship. I wish things had been different between us and I’m glad I was able to see you and spend time with you Saturday and that our final thoughts were positive, calm, and forgiving. I know how much you love a family reunion. I hope you’re catching up with Pink, Louise, Steve and Sam.

I love you- rest in peace

  19. Joyce and family – Sorry to hear about Wayne’s passing. I will never forget your wedding. It was the most fun wedding ever. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  20. At a time like this, words cannot adequately convey our heart-felt sympathy to Joyce and the entire family. I will miss the opportunity to look back and see Wayne and Joyce sitting together on the piano side of the sanctuary. You were an inspiration to us all!

  21. Joyce and family, We are so sorry to hear of Moose’s passing. We have so many fond memories of all the times we shared with Moose. From seeing him in the stands at Asheville Speedway, to the Darlington race trips, to the Florida fishing trips and the ‘community’ fish fry’s. Moose always made me feel like one of the family and he could do it simply with his grin or a pat of his big hand on my shoulder. I always loved to be around Moose! I am sad he is gone, but happy he is now healed and in a better place. Joyce, cherish all the memories and keep them in your heart.
Thinking of you and all the family,
    Don Rudisill

  22. Deepest sympathy and prayers are with you and your family in this time of sorrow. J.V.& Gearldean Buckner Jacob & Trevor

  23. When I was five Wayne came to see my Mom and Dad in Alcoa Tennessee.
I remember that Santa was at the Mid-land shopping center and everyone had other things to do. I was quite upset as any child would be. I wanted to go see Santa!
I remember ‘that real big guy’? smiling at me and saying’? don’t worry Timmy, I’ll take you.
We walked down the hill to Proffits Department Store and up on Santa’s lap I went. Two toy guns and holsters and a Batmobile please. Old Santa had my order for sure now!
As we walked up the hill he said to me’? I could use some Choclate Milk how about you?
We stopped in a Doughnut shop and had a Doughnut and Chocolate milk.
That was the best Christmas I had ever had. I was five and I knew it had to be because my Cousin Wayne took me to see Santa.
Every time I knew he was coming to see us was a special time.
The years past and every Christmas someone will ask you’? what was your favorite Christmas?
Mine was when a really big man took some time for a little boy.
    God Bless You Wayne.
With deepest sympathies to your Family.
    Timothy Q Smith and Family
(Charlotte and Fred Smith’s youngest Son)

  24. I remember Uncle Wayne laughing, that deep rumble of a laugh, like a giant. I remember his smile, that closed his eyes, making him smile with his whole face. I remember his selflessness, his attitude toward work and people. He was a lighthouse and a safe port for his family and friends. We will miss him, most of all, for that.

  25. Dear Joyce,

    Love,

    Rachel
