Wayne Elbert Wells, 91, of Asheville, died on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Elizabeth House. A native of Haywood Co., he was a son of the late Grover C. and Nellie Stines Wells. Mr. Wells worked as a house painter and enjoyed making music, including the guitar, harmonica, and singing lead for groups, including many sessions at the Shindig on the Green. Surviving are his wife, Estella Duquette Wells; step-daughters, Ruby Marie Green, Grace Suzanne Meyerhoffer and Dorothy Clement; step-sons, William R. Thomas, Jr., Fred Edward Thomas, and Clifford Thomas; sister, Wilma Brooks; brother, Glenn Wells; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Starnes Cove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Starnes Cove Baptist Church, 149 Starnes Cove Rd., Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  6. Very honored to have had this man as a granddad. He lived his life to the fullfillest. Loved my granny wells very much. He had a great heart and soul. No doubt in my head that he is watching over us all. Peace and comfort to all my fsmily, granny and his friends whi loved him dearly. Love u granddad.

To name a few of all those childhood memories, I would go over at your Papaw or Uncle Wayne’s with Sharon or Jodie for some play time. Those fun memories with our Tea sets or making mud pies! And those mud pies were the very best…..we thought!!! Your Uncle Wayne would tell us how grrrreat they were! Most of all it was very obvious Uncle Wayne loved each of you very much. And you all had that same special love for your Uncle Wayne too. ( also with my condolences it is impossible to not share those wonderful memories of Charles,Helen,Wilma & Ray, my overnight stays with either family & at either of homes,& camping trips makes for great childhood memories.And I truly think of you all often & hope you all are doing well too.) With those very special Angels from above as they surround each of you wiwwth their special presence. ‘ to share a lil info’…’Just remember Uncle Wayne hasn’t left you…He only changed locations, and what a beautiful location that must be’. As we all know life is precious and precious is the time used with those we love.
