Wayne N. Wilcox

Wayne Nelson Wilcox, 84, of Candler, died Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Greentree Ridge Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness. Mr. Wilcox was born February 29, 1920, in Lansing, MI, and was a US Navy veteran. He received his Chemical Engineering degree from Michigan State University and was employed by Standard Oil of Ohio, British Petroleum, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Washington, DC Navy Yard. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Garrison Wilcox; two sons, Gregory Curtis Wilcox of Candler and Keith Nelson Wilcox of Abingdon, VA; a sister, Jeanette Foot of Rochester, MI; a brother Allan Wilcox of Midland, MI, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Albert G. “Pete” Peery officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 40 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
