Wilene Duckett Brooks, 80, of Candler, died on Thursday, March 12, 2015, surrounded by her family at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. A native of Haywood Co., she was the daughter of the late Herman and Wilma Duckett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Thomas Brooks, Jr., and her brother, Bill Duckett. She is survived by her sons, Mike Brooks and Pat Brooks (Sharon), both of Candler; her daughter, Connie Brooks Burch (Richard), of Clyde; grandchildren, Tommy Brooks (Kristy), Willie Brooks (Ashley), Kelli Brooks Cody (Dustin Siske), and Jeremy Brooks (Misty); great-grandchildren, Tyler, Lily, Jackson, Connor, Jacob and Lindyn; and a special nephew, Tommy Brooks, of Asheville. Wilene retired from APAC-Carolina after 35 years and was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Rev. David Scruggs and Pastor Joe Tarpley officiating. Friends may stop by Wilene's home to pay their respects and visit with the family. Wilene's family also wishes to thank the staff at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center for the excellent and compassionate care they showed to Wilene. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CarePartners Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, or to Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 277 Oak Hill Rd., Candler, NC 28715. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
