William Lafayette "Bill" Young, 78, of Candler, died on Monday, March 31, 2014, at his home. A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Young was a son of the late Fred and Geneva Hibberts Young. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Phyllis and Jack Young. Mr. Young retired from American Enka/BASF, where he worked for 25 years. He was an avid farmer who loved to work with cows and horses. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Lillian Nicholson Young; daughter, Debra Young-Starkey and husband Toby; son, Randall W. Young; granddaughter, DeLaina Angela Edwards and husband Forrest; two great-grandchildren, Landon Cole Edwards, and Kyrrah LeighAnn Edwards; sisters, Lucille Stanberry, Betty Cordell, and Joan Young; brother, Eddie Young; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Young will be on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with Pastor Todd Cole officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
