William E. “Gene” Little, 89, of Leicester Highway, Asheville, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at Emerald Ridge Health Care. A native of Tilmon County, OK, he was a son of the late Jeff and Ethel Wheeler Little. He was a twice wounded combat veteran of WWII. Mr. Little was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborn Division and was awarded five Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a Master Carpenter, a member of Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church and had a life-long love of fishing. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Doris Smith Little; two daughters, Carolyn Dorsey and her husband Rev. Tom Dorsey of Leicester and Debra Pinner and her husband Randy of Hendersonville; a son, Rev. Danny E. Little and his wife Yvonne of Asheville; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 5:00 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Earl Jones, and Jonathan Dorsey officiating. His family will receive friends following the service. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Monday at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors by the Buncombe County Veterans Council and the Revs. Tom Dorsey and Danny Little officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church, 119 Cumberland Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
