William Fisher Corbett, 88, of 1 Battle Square, Asheville, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, October 12, 1999 in a Sylva nursing facility.

A native of Wilmington, NC he was a son of the late William Z. and Genevieve Jones Corbett. He was preceded in death by a sister Mary
Nettles Corbett and a brother Zachariah Corbett. He was a 1937 graduate of North Carolina State
University where he was in the Army ROTC and was an Army Veteran of WW II, where he served in the South Pacific. He was a Textile Chemist with
American Cyanamid with 25 years of service, was an accomplished pianist and a member and former president of the Guild Of Charlotte Artists.


Mr. Corbett is survived by his wife Elizabeth Benbow Corbett of Asheville; two daughters Elizabeth Newlin of Durham, NC and Julia Coward of Asheville; a son William F. Corbett Jr. of Kernersville, NC; two sisters Genevieve Covolo of New York City, Lucy Hacking of Edings, MD; ten
grandchildren and two great- grandsons.

A  Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer  where he was a member. Father Hugh C. Edsall and Alexander H. Hanks will officiate. Graveside
services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, at Green Hill Cemetery in Greensboro.

His family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the home of his daughter, Julia Coward, 12 Broadview Avenue, Asheville.
