William Francis Evans, Jr., 60, of 30 Cub Road, Asheville, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at his home. A native of Lowell, MA, he was a son of the late William F. Evans, Sr. and Ruth Nison Evans and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred “Millie” Varney Evans. A US Army veteran of Vietnam, he was a member of the American Legion in Watertown, NY and was employed by the TA Truck Stop at exit 37 on I-40. Survivors include a son, Anthony Evans of Florida; two adopted daughters, Deborah Turcott and Rebecca Arnold of Asheville; a sister, Carol Leonard and a brother, Richard Evans, both of Lowell, MA; two adopted grandchildren, Heather Hubbard of Asheville and Jason Hubbard of Camp Pendleton, CA; four nieces and one nephew. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military rites provided by Asheville High School Marine JROTC. His family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service and request that memorials be made to JROTC at Asheville High School, 419 McDowell Street, Asheville, NC 28803.
