William Harold Brown

William Harold Brown, 70, of 37 Cisco Road, Asheville, died Thursday, January 25, 2001 in an Asheville hospital.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Hubert and Elizabeth Black Brown. He was a
graduate of Oakley High School, a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a member of the VFW Post 891. He retired from Petrolane Gas Service in Waynesville and in his retirement
years he especially enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing and traveling. Mr. Brown was formerly
active with A.C. Reynolds High School Boosters Club, and was an active participant in the Heart Path Cardiac Rehab program at Mission St. Joseph
Health Systems. He was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church where he was in the Greeter Ministry. He has been involved with church mission trips both within the states and in Mexico.
His survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen Candler Brown; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna B. and Richard Moore, Kathy B. and Paul
Ballard all of Asheville; sisters, Betty Buckner of Fairview, Alice Kirstein of Asheville, Carolyn Harwood of Leicester, Janice Penland of
Swannanoa, Joyce Moore of Fairview; brothers, James A. Brown of Fletcher, Hubert Brown Jr., of Fairview and Samuel L. Brown of Taylors, SC. Also, he is survived by his grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Daddy Bill” by David William Moore, Andrew Douglas Moore, Carter
Kathleen Ballard and Caroline Mackenzie Ballard.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Biltmore Baptist Church. Revs. James Walker and Tim Lolley will officiate. His family will
receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Graveside rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Volunteer Memorial Veterans Team at 12:00 noon Monday in the Western North
Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heart Path, c/o Mission St. Joseph Health System, Attn. Mark Gordon, 509 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, NC 28801.
Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue is in charge of arrangements.
Bill was a dear person. He had such a gentle, genuine spirit about him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his dear family.
