Arden – Reverend William Lanford Crisp, 82, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Crisp was born on September 13, 1928 in Greer, SC to the late William Percy and Emma Jane Crisp. He was also preceded in death by a son, William David Crisp; one brother and several sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Elkins Crisp; a son, Phillip Crisp and his wife, Brenda, of Candler; three daughters, Judith Norton and her husband, Ed, of West Asheville, Jayne Buckner and her husband, Jim, of Gilbert, AZ and Joy Ferguson of the home; three sisters, Beverly Davis, Sharlene Ledford and Phyllis Morehead, all of S.C.; two brothers, Harold Crisp of Asheville and Charles Crisp of S.C.; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation and gratefulness to Four Seasons Hospice for all their compassion during this time.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Reverend James King officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know William very well, I am a friend of his grandson. From what I remember of him, was that he was a very nice and caring man.

Joyce and family; I remember all of you from when we attended church over on State St at what was the Churh of the Nazarene with Poppie Ralph Sexton. I grew up with your children. I just want to tell you how sorry I am for the passing of Lankford. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. Remember God is always in charge of our lives. Love Vickie
