William McKillion Smith

William M. “Bill” Smith, 79, of 711 Reed Street, Asheville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 13, 2004. He was a son of the late Carl Earl and Jessie Fugette Smith and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Secrets and Margaret Hodge and three brothers, Frank Smith, Charles Smith and Carl Smith, Jr. He was a WWII Navy vetean and was a painter all of his life. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hipps Smith; children, Brenda Green and her husband Denny of Asheville, Janet Trout and her husband Tom of Cleveland, TN, William Richard Smith and his wife Marsha of Fairview and Larry E. Smith of Asheville; brothers, Jack Smith and his wife Virginia of Charlotte and Paul Smith and his wife Frankie of Fairview; sister, Carleen Sorrells of Asheville; grandchildren, Martin Smith, Wesley Smith, Sarah Smith, William Smith, Jonathan Cupp, Joseph Cupp and Amanda Trout; great-grandchildren, Kayla Smith and Jalen Smith. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Major James Hipps officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
