William Paul “Bill” Butler, 68, of 644 New Haw Creek Road, Asheville, died Tuesday, October 22, 2004, at the VA Medical Center. Mr. Butler was born in St. Louis, MO and was a son of the late Raymond and Mary Cronin Butler. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Andrew Butler and a brother Jack Butler. He attended Parks Aeronautical College in St. Louis and served with the 31st Infantry, US Army, in Korea. He began his professional career with Lockheed in Los Angeles. He also worked as a salesman of industrial packaging in the Los Angeles area before retiring to Asheville in 1989. He was a member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Jennie Medford Butler; one daughter, Stephanie B. Warner and her husband Chris of Mars Hill; one son, Capt. Daniel Patrick Butler, USMC, and his wife Kathleen of San Diego, CA; a daughter-in-law, Maria Proost and her husband Joel of St. Augustine, FL; nine grandchildren, Christina Warner, Jonathan Warner, Daniel Warner, Jeffrey Warner, Andrew Warner, Matthew Michael Butler, Jake Butler, Samantha Butler and Kevin Butler; four sisters, Doris Heldmann and her husband Bill, Lois Wieprecht and her husband Wally, Jean Butler, Dr. Loretta Butler, O.P., a stepsister, Sr. Jean Schmid, O.N.D.; two brothers Russ Butler and his wife Betty and Ray Butler and his wife Joan; a step brother Don Schmid and his wife Jean; a sister-in-law Viola Butler and a half-sister Terry Folsom and her husband Jay. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. John M. Pagel at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Don Schmid, Wally Wieprecht, Harley Medford, Jim Medford, Dave Campbell, and Chris Warner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 919 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.
