Willodean Henderson Penland, 70, of 8 Parker Road, Asheville, died Monday, January 15, 2001, in an Asheville hospital.

Mrs. Penland was born in Madison County and was a daughter of the late Roy and Elsie Sawyer Henderson. She was also preceded in death by a son, Harold Penland. She attended Hot Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, William H. Penland; one daughter, Donna Stewart of Asheville; one son, Leon Suttles of Leicester’ three step-daughters, Patricia Chandler, Donna Greer, and Diane Coffey of Hudson, NC; five sisters, Pearl Lawson, Ada Moore, and Muriel Autrey of Hot Springs, Faye Matthews of Spartanburg, SC, and Barbara Loflin of Fletcher; one brother, Clay Henderson of Sherrills Ford, NC; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday at Hot Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Allman officiating. Burial will be at Ashelawn Gardens.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
