Wilma H. Sharpe

wilma sharpe
Wilma Alice Henderson Sharpe, age 91, formerly of Barnard Ave, passed away quietly at Brooks Howell Home on Friday, March 29, 2013 surrounded by dear friends. She was born November 5, 1921, in West Asheville to William Anson Henderson and Cordelia Delano Fitzgerald Henderson and was the youngest of seven children. Wilma was an energetic, independent woman who lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: reading the newspaper, bird-watching, gardening, sewing, eating seafood, watching golf and especially chatting with friends. Wilma was a wonderful conversationalist who loved to tell stories about her life and the incredible times that she lived through, recalling the details with amazing clarity and accuracy! Wilma was passionate about the mountains of Asheville and swore there wasn't a better place to live; not only did she grow up there but she also met her husband in Asheville. He was retired Asheville Fire Captain Wayne Robert Sharpe, who passed in 2011. They were married for 67 years and through that time, Wayne and Wilma enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, and even motorcycling with friends! While Wilma's siblings and children have preceded her in death, she has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren to remember her kind and loving spirit. Wilma's strong convictions about SAVING, never buying on credit, speaking to everyone, voting in all elections, and maintaining a sense of humor, will live on with the people who knew her best. Her family wishes to thank special friends Esther, Betsy, June, Helen, and Irma, and her team of caregivers at the Brooks Howell Home who provided excellent care, comfort, and companionship since her 2012 "winter stay" began. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, April 5, at Pisgah View Memorial Park with Rev. Allen Rash officiating. If you wish to honor Wilma, a donation can be made to the Brooks Howell Home Residence Council, 266 Merrimon Ave., Asheville, NC 28801 Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting her family.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Wilma loved unconditionally and cared deeply about her family. She wrote the playbook on loving without guilt, treating everyone fairly and well, and staying healthy through an active and engaging mind. I will miss her very much. When I called to check in with her, invariably it was me who ended up feeling super about myself thanks to her giving nature. She truly was one in a million.

    Much Love,

  2. Thoughts and Memories of Wilma Sharpe

Kind, thoughtful and determination that sometimes went above and beyond my imagination!!! Her smile and laughter always brightened my day whether we were on the phone or out shopping. She worried and cared so deeply for her friends and if at all possible she would take each and everyone and make them a special part of her life. Wilma, had a unique way of answering the phone and when I would call her I would always try to imitate her,she would start laughing then I would laugh and that’s how we always started our phone conversations! There is so much more I would like to say in her honor but for for now I will keep thinking of all the good memories and to thank God that I was included in her remarkable life!!!

To Kelly,John and the girls,I send you my heart!!!
