Winifred Mason Metcalf, 90, of 34 Vermont Avenue, Asheville, died Thursday, December 12, 2002, in an Asheville hospital.
Mrs. Metcalf was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Lote G. and Sallie Cole Mason. She was married to Clarence E. Metcalf who died in 1963 and was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Blanton Mason. She was a former employee of American Enka and of L & M Cafeteria.
Surviving are one daughter, Brenda “Bea” Metcalf of Asheville; one son, Jim Metcalf and his wife Maxine of Asheville.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Saturday in the Salvation Army chapel at 746 Haywood Road, Asheville, with Captain Robert Lyles and Major Harry Foden officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:00 pm Saturday prior to the service and request that memorials be made to the Eliada Home for Children, PO Box 16708, Asheville, NC 28816.
