Chester Alexander Hill, born January 24, 1942, passed away May 16, 2017 at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center following a brief illness.
Chet is survived by his five children, George (Margaret) Gasperson of Winter Haven, FL, Danny (Jackie) Gasperson of Candler, NC, Mary (Steve) Gray of Colfax, NC, Susan Gasperson of Candler, NC, and Jeanne (John) Parris of Candler, NC. He is also survived by his brothers Sherrill Hill of Hickory, NC and Bob Hill of Ware Shoals, SC. Chet was Poppa to 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene, parents Lee and Velda Hill, and brother Ben Hill. He leaves behind a large family and a host of friends and former students.
Chet was a career teacher in the Buncombe County School system and influenced countless lives. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved walking the mountains in search of wildflowers. He was also an authority of Hominy Valley history, researching, curating, and publishing several collections of documents and historical information. He loved his family, his Lord, and jealously claimed Mt. Pisgah as "my mountain".
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 22, 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Rd., Asheville. Chet's family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist Church Mission Fund, 283 Shelburne Rd., Asheville NC 28806.
